The Rusk County Animal Shelter (RCAS) is a county-run, municipal shelter serving Rusk County, Wisconsin. We shelter and provide supportive care for stray and un-wanted domestic Rusk County animals until they can be reunited with their owners or adopted by new families. We provide a safe refuge, veterinary care, spay/neuter support and an opportunity for a better life to these stray, unwanted, abused, injured and neglected in-need animals in our community. Our purpose is to protect and serve the people and animals of Rusk County through intervention, education, communication, and by promoting responsible pet ownership.

Rusk County Animal Shelter is dedicated to finding the animals in our care new homes through social media and networking with other animal organizations. We will continue to support animal welfare by ensuring that, to the best of our ability and knowledge, all the animals in our care are healthy, up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations, and spayed/neutered before they are adopted out. 

Rusk County Animal Shelter is committed to a “no kill” philosophy. Humane euthanasia is only performed when the physical and emotional state of an animal is causing untreatable, prolonged suffering to said animal. We do not euthanize for space. We also do not provide boarding services.

Walk In Hours are Monday from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM

All Other Times By Appointment Only

As stated above, if you are unable to come in during walk in hours, all other times will be by appointment only, same day appointments will be offered depending on staff availability.
